Mili was officially formed in the year 2012, featuring artists Cassie Wei aka momocashew, and Yamato Kasai aka HAMO. Both had been making music under their stage names for a while by then, but wanted to come together to start their own music project. Their first activity in music was to submit songs to the project Sound On Our Palms - TENORI-ON Compilation - the songs A Turtle's Heart and Nine Point Eight were amongst their first songs.

Shortly after this, selections of their first songs were featured in the popular rhythm game Cytus. This was where recognition of their music first began to grow, as many players of the game enjoyed their songs and they received their own area in the game due to this.

At this point in time, Mili already had a uniquely defined style. They blended classical melodies, electronic noise, and poetic, vaguely defined lyrics with Cassie Wei's high pitched voice. This gave them a distinct sound that they continue to be known for in their songs.

In 2013 two new members joined the group: bassist Yukihito Mitomo and drummer Shoto Yoshida. They began to expand and create music for commercias, games, and comics, such as a RICOH commercial video and an otome game called Backstage Pass. In this same year their music was featured in another popular rhythm game called Deemo, causing further reach to fans of rhythm games.

In 2014 Mili was joined by illustrator and animator Ao Fujimori. Much of the iconic art associated with Mili's music is a result of his work. They were also joined by designer Ame Yamaguchi, who since 2019 has left the groupr to pursue personal projects. They registered with ARTISTCROWD and continued to produce their own songs as well as compositions for others' commercials and projects, until finally in 2015 came the release of their first album: Mag Mell. It contained many of their first ever songs that are loved to this day. During this time they also arranged music for fellow musician DAOKO's album of the same name.

In 2016 they began to tour live to great success, and also produced their first commissioned song: NENTEN, for the anime adaptation of Space-Time Prisoners titled Bloodivore.

In 2017 came the release of Mili's highly anticipated second album, Miracle Milk. It included an exclusive cover of the song Komm Süsser Todd from the movie The End of Evangelion. Some of the songs on this album, such as world.execute(me); and Ga1ahad and Scientific Wizardry, were huge hits that remain some kf their most popular songs today.

Then, in 2018, Mili released one of their first big commissioned songs: the opening theme for the anime Goblin Slayer. This helped expand their reach hugely, and from then on they would start to create songs for much more high profile games. They would also release their third album Millenium Mother, featuring many more beautiful songs.

In 2020 - 2021, Mili would release music for several popular games and anime such as Mahoyaku, Ghost in the Shell, Ender Lilies, and Limbus Company. This would cause their popularity to explode, especially since Project Moon would continue to ask them back several times over the years to make songs for more of their games.

Since then, Mili has seen something of a golden age, seeing thousands of new fans all over the globe. They have remained an indie band during all this time, and have retained that special style that first caused them to receive recognition and reward. Their music spans many different genres and energies, yet always remains distinctly theirs.

I first discovered Mili in 2015 upon the release of their first album, when somebody I followed on tumblr shared A Turtle's Heart. I immediately fell in love, I truly felt like I had found the music that was "made for me." Since then I have faithfully followed every song, every release, and every collab, always excited to see their progress and what new things they will continue to put out. As of writing this, I am hoping to get a tattoo of their logo very soon!

Mili has touched so many hearts all over the world, and I hope they know they have such a special place with so many people. We love you Mili!
